Guests at a Turkish mosaic workshop in Atlanta spend the session arranging colorful glass tiles and beads, and one step is saved for the following day: grouting. The reason is timing. Mosaic glue needs approximately 10 to 12 hours to dry fully, and a session lasts approximately 2.5 hours. This guide walks through the session, the drying time, and what guests receive to complete the final step at home.
What Happens at the Workshop
Public sessions are held at Homewood Suites by Hilton Atlanta/Perimeter Center, 915 Crestline Parkway, Atlanta, GA 30328, in Atlanta’s Perimeter Center area. Guests select a project during booking, subject to availability: four lamp styles (mini table lamp, table lamp, swan lamp, and moon lamp) or a candle holder. Lamp projects use a glass globe, and the candle holder project uses a glass candle holder. An experienced instructor guides each creative phase.
Phase 1: Tile Placement
Each guest begins working on their selected lamp style or candle holder by arranging colorful glass tiles onto the glass surface.
Pattern guides are provided at each seat for guests who would like inspiration or a starting point, or they can create their own arrangement.
Every guest receives one serving of fresh baklava and one cup of traditional Turkish coffee during this phase.
Every workshop includes a live music performance while guests continue working on their mosaic projects.
Phase 2: Bead Placement
The experienced instructor demonstrates how to place colorful beads between the tiles, and guidance is available during each creative phase.
Each project can develop its own look based on the colors, patterns, and bead combinations selected by each guest. The choices made throughout the session are visible in the tiled mosaic design.
Why Grouting Is Completed at Home
Mosaic glue needs approximately 10 to 12 hours to dry fully before a project is ready for grouting. A session lasts approximately 2.5 hours, so grouting is completed at home the following day, not during the workshop.
What Guests Receive for the Grouting Step
Before the session ends, the experienced instructor demonstrates the grouting process and answers questions. Each guest also receives a grout packet and printed take-home instructions for the final step.
Every guest leaves with the tiled glass project they personally created and everything needed to complete the final finishing step the following day.
Guests who select a lamp style also receive the lamp base in a bag at the end of the session. The candle holder project has no lamp base and no metal parts.
What to Do at Home
Allow the mosaic glue to dry fully, then use the grout packet and printed instructions for the final step. The instructor’s demonstration and the printed instructions cover the grouting process, so those are the guides to follow once you are home.
