Things to Do with Out-of-Town Guests in Atlanta: A Turkish Mosaic Workshop

Hosting family or friends who are visiting Atlanta usually means planning a few activities that everyone can take part in. A Turkish mosaic workshop is a hands-on creative option where each guest works on their own project side by side.

Sessions are held at Homewood Suites by Hilton Atlanta/Perimeter Center in Atlanta's Perimeter Center area. During an approximately 2.5-hour session, every guest works on one of five mosaic art projects β€” four lamp styles and a candle holder β€” using colorful glass tiles and beads to create their own mosaic project. An experienced instructor guides each creative phase, and no prior art or crafting experience is required.

Why a Mosaic Workshop Works When You Have Visitors

Hosts and visitors take part together. Each guest chooses from five mosaic project options when booking and personally creates their own tiled mosaic design using colorful glass tiles and beads.

Different ages can join. Guests ages 7 and up are welcome, and the guided process is designed to be approachable for different ages and experience levels, so a visiting group with children can attend together.

A guided process. An experienced instructor demonstrates each creative phase, so no prior art or crafting experience is required.

Refreshments and live music. Every guest receives one serving of fresh baklava and one cup of traditional Turkish coffee, and every workshop includes a live music performance while guests continue working on their mosaic projects.

What Your Group Will Do During the Session

Phase 1 β€” Tile Placement

The session starts with tile placement. Each guest begins working on the lamp style or candle holder they selected during booking, arranging colorful glass tiles onto the glass surface. Pattern guides are provided at each seat for guests who would like inspiration or a starting point, or they can create their own arrangement.

As the group settles in, every guest receives one serving of fresh baklava and one cup of traditional Turkish coffee. Every workshop includes a live music performance while guests continue working on their mosaic projects.

Phase 2 β€” Bead Placement

Next, the experienced instructor shows the group how to place colorful beads between the tiles to add depth and texture to the design. Each project develops its own look based on the colors, patterns, and bead combinations selected by each guest.

Wrap-Up β€” Grout Instructions

Because the mosaic glue needs approximately 10 to 12 hours to dry fully, grouting is completed at home rather than during the workshop. Before the session ends, the experienced instructor demonstrates the grouting process, answers questions, and provides each guest with a grout packet and printed take-home instructions.

Fitting the Workshop into a Visit

Public sessions run primarily on Saturdays, with two time slots: 11:00 AM–1:30 PM and 2:30 PM–5:00 PM. Because each session lasts approximately 2.5 hours, hosts can plan the rest of the day around the morning or afternoon session they choose, and checking the available session dates before visitors arrive makes that easier.

Project selections are made during booking, subject to availability, so each member of the group can choose the project they prefer. Guests who select a lamp style also receive the lamp base in a bag at the end of the session, along with a grout packet and printed instructions for completing the final grouting step at home the following day.

Public Session or Private Group Booking?

Individuals, couples, and smaller groups can reserve spots at a public session alongside other guests. Private bookings provide a dedicated workshop setting for the group, with an experienced instructor dedicated to the group and more scheduling flexibility depending on availability and event needs. Most private bookings are between 10 and 20 guests, although smaller and larger groups may also be accommodated.
