The best family activities share a few qualities: everyone can participate, nobody feels left out, and you leave with something you actually made. Finding that β especially something that gives each person their own hands-on experience β is harder than it sounds.
A Turkish mosaic lamp workshop fits that description exactly. It's a 2.5-hour guided creative session open to guests ages 7 and up, where every person in the family β kids and adults alike β builds their own handmade Turkish mosaic project, choosing from four lamp styles and a candle holder option. No craft background needed. The artist guides the full group step by step from start to finish. Please note: children under 12 should attend with a participating adult.
Β
Why a Mosaic Lamp Workshop Works for Families
Kids can actually do it. The workshop is open to ages 7 and up, and the process is designed to be approachable for first-timers regardless of age. Choosing an arrangement, following a pattern chart (or going freestyle), and placing glass tiles and beads one by one is focused, satisfying work for children β paced comfortably across two creative phases.
Every person makes their own piece. Adults and kids each choose their own project and build it independently. That means a parent and child can sit side by side, each working on their own design, making their own choices. Nobody is just watching or helping from the sidelines. Every person leaves with something they personally created.
No experience required. The artist guides the group through each step. There's no prior knowledge needed β not for kids, not for adults. Pattern charts are provided, but freestyle is equally welcome. The steps are designed so that following along naturally produces a beautiful result.
The atmosphere puts everyone at ease. You arrive to tables already prepared β working trays laid out, display lamps glowing around the room. During the first creative phase, Turkish coffee is served in patterned porcelain cups alongside fresh baklava. A live music performance adds warmth to the room as the family works together.

How the Workshop Session Runs
The session moves through two hands-on creative phases, each roughly 45 minutes, followed by a short wrap-up.
Phase 1 β Tile Placement: Each guest chooses their tile arrangement and glues glass tiles onto their glass base β a glass globe for lamp projects, or a glass candle holder for the candle holder option. You can follow the pattern chart or go completely freestyle. Turkish coffee and fresh baklava arrive while the group settles in. A live music performance accompanies the room as everyone works.
Phase 2 β Bead Placement: The artist introduces the next step: placing colorful beads between the tiles to add depth and texture to the design. A live music performance continues through this phase as the group completes their projects. Each piece takes on its own character β the choices made in Phase 1 become fully visible here.
Wrap-Up β Grout Instructions: Because the mosaic glue needs 10 to 12 hours to dry completely, grouting is done at home β not at the workshop. The artist walks the group through the full process, answers questions, and hands each guest printed take-home instructions along with their grout packet. Every person leaves with their tiled glass project, a grout packet, and everything needed to complete the final finishing step at home the following day.
